Weekly Market Watch: NFL Kicks Off

It’s here, it’s really here!

Week 1 of NFL season action is upon us with the season opening up with a primetime matchup between the defending champion Rams vs. the preseason Super Bowl favorite Bills. All signs point to a high-scoring affair to start the year off in style. Here’s what sport trades we’re watching this week at HQ!

Biggest Game of the Week: TB Buccaneers at DAL Cowboys, Sunday, Sep 11, 8:20 pm ET

Both the Bucs and Cowboys open their seasons with question marks surrounding them. Can Brady and TB succeed without Bruce Arians? Will the Cowboys much-maligned offseason cost them a shot to advance forward in a weakened NFC? Our moneyline market on this game sees the Bucs as slight favorites, trading at $53.50. With this being the first Sunday night NFL game of the season, expect some major trading volume in the Sporttrade app!

Market Movement: JAC Jaguars at WAS Commanders, Sunday Sep 11, 1:00pm ET

There’s nothing better than placing a trade early in the week and watching the money move in your favor as kickoff approaches. Jacksonville finds itself with a new Head Coach and new vibes entering the season, trading at just $41 to beat the Washington Commanders. People have been selling on Carson Wentz all offseason, while the reports out of Jacksonville have piqued our interest. We’ll be grabbing the Jags early anticipating the price to rise throughout the week (and remember, on Sporttrade, you can sell that trade for profit even before the game begins).

Bullish or Bearish: ALA Crimson Tide at TX Longhorns, Saturday Sept 10, 12:00pm ET

It’s Week 2 of college football and already we have a clash between two of college football’s biggest powerhouses. No. 1-ranked Alabama pays a visit to Texas where Steve Sarkisian’s squad will look to declare that Texas is BACK, for real this time. It’s been a tough decade or so for Texas, so this noon showdown in Austin is a real opportunity for them to shock the CFB world with a win. Are you bullish or bearish on the Longhorns’ chances vs. Saban and Co.?

Limit Order Up: LV Raiders at LA Chargers, Sunday Sept 11, 4:25pm ET

There’s not a more fascinating team entering 2022 than the Los Angeles Chargers. Everyone’s ‘second team’ has seemingly been a playoff dark horse every season since 2000, but appear primed to make a leap this year. At $63.50 to beat the Raiders and $52 to cover -3.5 points, they’ll be in our portfolio. But tread lightly: The Chargers led the NFL in 4th quarter scoring last season (10.6 ppg), but also allowed the most 4th quarter points (10.2). If you don’t want to deal with the volatility, you can utilize Sporttrade’s unique ability to set a limit sell order to lock in a profit and avoid heartbreak.

Buy Low, Sell High: BAL Ravens at NY Jets, Sunday Sept 11, 1:00pm ET

It’s safe to say the market doesn’t think much of the New York Jets’ chances against former MVP Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens. NYJ is trading at just $27 to win outright, despite being at home. Such a depressed price for a home team offers a chance to jump in low and sell your position if the Jets happen to get off to a hot start, which can sometimes happen during emotional home openers. After trading out of NYJ, you can then buy into BAL and hold for the remainder of the game, since let’s be real, the Jets are probably not winning this one.
